GUDRUN SJÖDÉN’S AUTUMN COLLECTION 2016
A colourful autumn IN GREYS by Gudrun Sjödén
For her Autumn 2016 collection, Gudrun Sjödén drew inspiration from the urban scene in the ‘Big Apple’ of New York and embraced North America’s cultural heritage. The influences are Chinatown, urbanite checks and jeans from the Meatpacking District, florals from roof top gardens in Brooklyn and folkloric embroidery from Santa Fe.
“My many trips to New York were the jumping off point for me and my design team when we set about the autumn collection. North America has a truly fascinating cultural heritage. Drawing inspiration from the contemporary New York scene and 19th century immigrants, we did periwinkle blue checks in the Meatpacking District, a colour medley in Chinatown, deepest red in the heights outside Santa Fe, and then understated grey and black linen, which (oddly enough!) was my personal favourite. Then again, GREY is actually a real and wonderful COLOUR”, says Gudrun Sjödén, CEO and Owner.
GREY LINEN AND ART For art lovers, we designed this classic range of styles in grey, brown, indigo and natural black. Featuring button-through dresses and skirts, casual shirts, straight-legged trousers and a series of fine-knit tops in linen/viscose. Artful styles for touring the galleries!
GREENERY ON A ROOF IN BROOKLYN On the world’s biggest roof top farm, our “Dahlia”, “Geranium” and “Purpurea” patterns were in their element. This range of styles in eco-cotton, viscose and lyocell is ideal for light and airy layering while greening your roof top or shopping in Soho or Stockholm. Includes a sensational wraparound-style jacquard-knit cardigan, loose-fitting tunics in viscose, and casual coordinates in lyocell jersey.
DENIM AND CHECKS GO MEATPACKING This range pays tribute to the history of jeans and urbanite ‘boho’ style. Includes loose-fitting shirts, trousers in soft, washed denim along with oversized dresses and blouses. All teamed with a roomy sweater in eco-cotton and a large triangular shawl.
COLOURFUL, TEEMING CHINATOWN STYLE A fusion of Afro-Asian influences. Colourful and highly patterned in styles with street-life edge. Featuring the “Yoki” coat in felted wool with styles in the “Turtle” pattern in ochre and indigo.
FROM NEW YORK TO SANTA FE In this range, we were inspired by Native American heritage. We combined pattern motifs from ceramics with woven braids and ethnic embroidery in a hot and spicy palette of burgundy, indigo, black and tomato. All shot on location in the New Mexico desert and heights between Santa Fe and Taos.
OUR BELOVED ESSENTIAL STRIPE AT GREENE STREET IN SOHO For more than 30 years, Gudrun’s striped range has been topping our best-seller list. In that time, we’ve sold more than 500,000 striped sweaters and dresses! The stripes go like hot cakes from our store on Greene Street in New York, where our American shoppers can’t get enough of the stripey eco-cotton!
