UMBRO PARTNERS X CHRISTOPHER RJEBURN SS18
Authentic British football brand Umbro has joined forces with leading British fashion designer Christopher Rburn with a capsule collection for Spring/Summer ’18.
The range fully embraces Christopher Rburn’s brand ethos; REMADE, REDUCED, RECYCLED while celebrating Umbro’s indelible links with English football. The project deconstructs iconic Umbro shirts from 1996 to 2010 and crafts them into a 6-piece range of unique and authentic statement garments. The use of this technique means no single garment is the same, creating truly inimitable pieces.
These unique pieces set the ground for rest of the collection. The collaboration is a replica of these REMADE pieces and created by using sustainable materials, such as organic cotton and recycled blends.
The chosen shirts evoke sentimental memories in England’s football history starting with the year when “football came home” and England beat The Netherlands 4-1. Another shirt reminisces to the World Cup ’98 where a young Michael Owen marked his place in football history with a wonder goal against Argentina. The collection also includes the home and away kits worn on the way to the 2002 world cup which saw the famous 1-5 win in Munich.
Umbro’s red, white, grey and blue England shirts are disassembled and restructured into crew-neck t-shirts, sweatshirts and shorts emblazoned with oversized player numbers in red, navy and gold. The capsule collection’s hero piece, the CR-18 Bomber Jacket, features red and white shirts stitched into contrasting vertical panels with navy and gold numbers finished with a navy collar and cuffs.
