GET TO KNOW ATHLETIC PROPULSION LABS
Athletic Propulsion Labs (APL) is an athletic footwear and active fashion brand intersecting fashion, luxury, technology, and performance. Based in Los Angeles, APL was founded in 2009 by identical twin brothers Adam and Ryan Goldston while they were basketball and football players at the University of Southern California. APL defines the intersection of luxury and performance.
The Goldston’s launched their inaugural Concept 1 basketball shoe direct to consumer via their e-commerce website in June 2010. They created the first shoe proven to instantly make you jump higher due to APL’s revolutionary 8-spring patented Load ‘N Launch® Technology in the forefoot. As a result, the Concept 1 became the first shoe banned in the NBA’s 64-year history for “providing an undue competitive advantage.”
APL launched running footwear in 2014, and most recently debuted the TechLoom Bliss and TechLoom Breeze. The brand’s technology innovations include Load ‘N Launch Technology, as well as many innovations through their proprietary TechLoom uppers which include 3-Dimensional stretch Techloom, stretch rebound Techloom, UV-charged Techloom, cashmere blended Techloom as well as abrasion and water resistant Techloom for their Formula1 partners. APL launched active fashion in 2016, including men’s and women’s tops and bottoms.
Through innovative retail positioning led by the founders themselves, the brand is internationally recognized as the visionaries of the luxury performance category. APL is sold in over 300 top retailers around the globe including Barneys New York, Lane Crawford, Level Shoes, Saks Fifth Avenue, ShopBop.com, Net-A-Porter and is the exclusive footwear brand sold within Lululemon.
Since the introduction of running in 2014, APL has tripled revenue year over year, resulting in millions of dollars in profit. The brand has never taken any outside funding and does not have an external sales team.
To date, Co-Founders Adam & Ryan Goldston have been honored at the White House as part of the “Empact 100,” Forbes “30 Under 30,” Los Angeles Business Journal “Twenty in Their 20s,” WWD “40 under 40,” and they were the first athletic brand inducted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). Most recently Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti declared October 12th as Athletic Propulsion Labs Day in the City of Los Angeles.
APL’s founders look to the automotive, fashion and technology industries for motivation and inspiration. APL has established itself as an athletic, fitness, fashion and experience brand, and thus has partnered and collaborated with a variety of partners including SoulCycle and Renault Sport Formula OneTM Team. APL is the exclusive footwear partner for Lululemon.
