Scandinavian design; clean lines and an uncompromising desire for the finest quality fabrics are entwined this season with abstract expressionist art movement inspirations. Spotlighting the 1940’s at its core, the NYNNE Autumn/Winter 20 collection pays homage to works of art women created an era that was a heavily male dominated. Furthermore solidifying NYNNE’s female empowerment direction of prior seasons.
Autumn/Winter 20 draws aspects from the careers of all women within the expressionist movement, those who have largely fallen out of the art-historical spotlight, marginalised during their careers as students, disciples, or wives of their more-famous male counterparts rather than pioneers in their own right.
This season’s silhouettes and finer details are inspired by the elegant life of art enthusiast Peggy Guggenheim. The collections luxurious weighted leather pieces stand in contrast to soft jerseys and silk satins. This high/low mood of post-war New York is also exhibited by bringing together voluminous silhouettes in the shape of power shoulders with feminine components, as well as representing the contrasting life of Guggenheim. The NYNNE signature ruched detailing along with sheer and metallic fabric bring expected sensual touches to the collection. While silhouettes and glamorous details are inspired by the elegance of art enthusiast Peggy Guggenheim.
Burnt orange, brown, black and a touch of blue, are taken out of Joan Mitchell’s many paintings from this time, including ‘Two Sunflowers’ as part of her expression of freedom, she was one few female artists gaining critical acclaim. Rich textures with vibrant, lyrical colour enrich this NYNNE’s collection with luxurious silk satins, buttery leathers, sheer chiffon alongside the return of shearling from her first collection, which completes this sophisticated edit.
