CMMN SWDN LC:M AW16 PRESENTATION
For Autumn Winter 2016, CMMN SWDN continues the sartorial groundwork laid down last season. Continuation is key for Saif Bakir and Emma Hedlund. And just like SS16 and AW16 are related, the ‘Domus’ collection is all about familiarity. “This season was about looking at clothes as an extension of your home,” Bakir explains.
As such the AW16 pieces are part of your own comfort zone; they’re warm, inviting and carefree. There’s a sense of security about them. “We thought of our own homes growing up and what felt familiar about them – but we also remembered all those elements and interiors that we hated and disliked but now think fondly of,” Hedlund says.
The ‘Domus’ collection (Latin for ‘home’) has a slight late 70s / early 80s feeling to it. Through the use of domestic textiles there’s traces of old leather couches and velvet armchairs, the kind we perhaps lovingly associate with a specific person or place. Bakir and Hedlund contrast the retro influences with a focus on modern fits, contemporary details and technical fabrics.
Throughout ‘Domus’, CMMN SWDN plays with the notion of what constitutes a ‘luxury fabric’, using both real and faux suede and leather. A boxy, cropped fit dominates the jackets ands tops while high waists and slim legs define the trousers and jeans. Key pieces include the unlined full-length duffel coat with raw edges and another duffel version made out of blanket fabric with retro graphics. Elsewhere you’ll find water resistant anoraks, and shirts and quilted bomber jackets with extreme cutaway collars in an earthy colour palette.
