NATIVE YOUTH SS16 MEN
For Spring Summer 16 Native Youth draws key inspiration from the Impressionist artistic movement. Mark making, abstract and hand drawn style techniques are exhibited throughout prints and colour pops within the collection.
This, combined with Native youth’s design philosophy of creating no-nonsense British menswear leads to a classic collection infused with conversational prints and offbeat design details.
Picasso’s famous quote ‘Youth has no Age’ links to the Native Youth design ethos of creating timeless pieces that do not exclude any age group. To the team, ‘Youth’ is more so a philosophy of always embracing new opportunities and refusing to succumb to complacency.
For Spring Summer 16, Native Youth utilise materials like Seersucker jersey, coated chambray and lightweight rayon. Classic indigo jersey has been freshened with the use of unique jacquard techniques and splashes of orange tones. Outerwear offerings include lightweight tech fabrics, brushed bombers and classic summer macs.
Ever present core colours of navy, white and grey make up the colour palette and are complimented by contrasting key colour bursts and strong prints to offer a harmonious aesthetic to the collection. The bold floral Sashiko, kiwi and Shibori gingham prints presented throughout the range carry through shirting and t’s to the ever growing offering of swim shorts. This use of colour and print brings huge hanger appeal to the collection both in store and online.
The brand collaborated with textile and print designer, Lauren Bouch for the lookbook art direction. The team were drawn to Bouch’s expressive style, distinctive mark making techniques and use of unusual mediums to create large scale artworks, During the lookbook shoot, Lauren Bouch simultaneously created multiple paintings on 8ft canvases inspired by the movements and prints were present on the day which were later curated and transferred to the pages of the seasons look book.
The SS16 collection launches mid February.
