ROLAND MOURET RESORT 2017 COLLECTION
A modern summer palette, a secret garden. Hidden behind the terracotta façades of Mayfair lies an unexpected botanical world, The Mount Street Gardens, a world known by Roland Mouret. Lending a nod to nature, Mouret takes the bold, vivid colours of this secluded garden and the creativity of the Chelsea Flower Show and makes them into his unmistakable creations.
The opening looks of Mouret’s Resort 2017 collection is a story of modernity and directness. Nature is abundant; bouclé pants in monochrome, like a herbaceous border, graze the ankle – the look is finished with definite ruffles.
Looks become bolder, tones become richer. An orchid pink coat provides a background for geometric fil coupé motifs, the theme continuing with a sharp, masculine dress – typically Mouret – which sits on the knee, capped shoulders hugging the frame.
Effortlessly the collection moves from summer warmth to urban coolness, into a story of bold black and white. A knitted, single-strap dress is presented with a sweeping, asymmetric flissage. Simple, elegant lines fix the silhouette. Boucle and metallic meet. Like a bouquet picked from the garden, looks resemble a clash of colours and textures. Iridescent threads are woven in a bouclé, sleeveless coat. Dark and moody lights emanate from the sharp pantsuit.
For this collection Mouret introduces the new cape for the season; free-spirited, sleeves slip off the shoulder, generous straps sit on the collar bone, it takes you from the freedom of the day to the mystery of the night.
Dresses, in the simplest shades of greys and greens are adorned with butterflies, digitally-printed, in potent hues. The collection showcases Mouret’s unrivalled use of bold colour inspired by the garden. Captured by his dexterity, we are transported on a journey, a juxtaposition of nature and power.
