LUKE X ELENSA X BROTHERHOOD X CHRIS MITTON

This September has seen the release of the final part of the Hood Trilogy, Brotherhood, following 2006’s Kidulthood and 2008’s Adulthood. Brotherhood gives the trilogy a fitting and powerful ending to a gripping story.

Having been involved with the success of the first two films by dressing the key actors, it was fitting that Luke play a part in the final instalment of this British classic. As well as being part of the film’s costume and aesthetic, Luke has now also collaborated with Elensa and Andy Blake, The Hood Trilogy’s costume designer. A limited edition capsule collection has been created, featuring clothing inspired by the film, made for film fans and collectors alike.

The Elensa collaboration with avant-garde sculptor Chris Mitton for this collection honours and replicates his artwork ‘Hoodie’ in a variety of different ways. As Chris puts it, ‘Subverting the heroic iconography of the classical carved marble bust, Hoodie creates an anti-hero by confronting the faceless stereotyping and politics of fear employed by government and media, rather than them addressing issues behind the social exclusion and desire for self-exemption from society,’ says Mitton.

Luke and Andy Blake have designed a collection that brings to life the overarching message of the film, as well as the story behind the ‘Hoodie’ sculpture, to produce a range that speaks in one clear voice.

The range features t-shirts, polos, sweats, hoodies, MA-1s, joggers and accessories, all styled and finished with Luke’s ethos. Black, grey and white trim tape run throughout while making flash appearances under polo collars and sleeves. Raised rubber print, micro dot print and elevated embossing techniques give a real depth and a 3D ‘Hoodie’ metal zip puller generated from original scans of the Chris Mitton sculpture are a real stand out. With a monochrome colour pallet across the range, the ‘Anonymous’ zip through hoody sees a retractable mouth guard on the hood. Fabrics utilise clean tech finishes with original Luke fabric developments such as neoprene bombers and liquid touch jerseys. Branding techniques use high lustre chest embroidery, back neck film branding and the ‘Hoodie’ and ‘Faceless’ quotes from Chris Mitton across jackets and sweat backs.

Elensa and Andy Blake have also brought in other key designers to expand the offering and give the whole collection a more balanced approach. Johnny Rocket, the acclaimed silver smith, has produced a stunning range of jewellery. Solid silver pendants, earrings rings, dog tags, charm bracelets, rings and cufflinks are all hand crafted in the ‘Hoodie’ artwork. Bespoke sunglasses have been designed by Absolute Black, featuring chic and slightly oversized frame’s and a mix of colours and finishes. Finally, a premium denim collection created by Stuart Trevor rounds off the package. Featuring ‘Hoodie’ embroidery as well as zipper pulls, twist features and A-symmetric button details the denim is a statement in itself.

So enjoy the film, wear the icons and be part of the Brotherhood…
