GUDRUN SJÖDÉN CELEBRATES 40 YEARS OF COLOUR AND DESIGN WITH AN EXHIBITION AND FASHION SHOW

 

Gudrun Sjödén will is celebrating forty years in business with the exhibition “Gudrun Sjödén 40 Years of Colour and Design” at Kulturhuset – Stockholm House of Culture & City Theatre in Stockholm, Sweden. For forty years, Gudrun Sjödén has reached segments often disregarded by the mainstream fashion industry, and has created fashions for women who dare to stand out from the crowd. The exhibition was officially opened with a sensational fashion show for the press and customers.

“I am a watercolour artist and entrepreneur! The thrill of the design process and of growing the business with stores, an online presence and catalogues – is top of mind for me all the time. And a full 40 years have now gone by! I’m still learning. My company has grown enormously and I intend to continue expanding on different markets while preserving the label’s flexibility. Since the beginning in 1976, the business concept has remained the same: comfortable clothes in natural materials. But much has happened along the way too. Today, we have customers in 52 countries and stores in seven markets, of which the USA is showing the most growth. It’s all about living for the moment” –  Gudrun Sjödén, CEO and owner.

 

40 Years of Colour and Inspiration

Gudrun Sjödén is one of Sweden’s most successful designers. For forty years, she has created colourful clothes for women who dare to stand out from the crowd. She draws inspiration from the natural world, design traditions around the globe and encounters with people. Today, she has colourful customers all around the world through her own-label stores, catalogues and webshop.

 

What drives a fashion designer who has been in the lead for 40 years and is only going from strength to strength?

“The thrill of the design process, which is top of mind for me all the time”, is her own answer. Since the beginning in the 70s, the business concept has remained the same: comfortable clothes in natural materials with Nordic design influences. But much has happened over the years. One development has been a new, more youthful and experimental line in fashions. And there are more customers than ever. The clothes are now sold though the dedicated webshop and in stores on nine markets, of which Germany, the UK and the US are the fastest growing. In 2016, the company had turnover in the region of SEK 720 million.
