MAISON KITSUNÉ PRESENTS PRE-FALL 2017

For the Autumn-Winter 2017-2018 collection, Gildas Loaëc and Masaya Kuroki, co-founders and artistic directors, drew their inspiration from American pop culture and the aesthetic and creative energy of New York born, Paris based, artist William Klein.

Vintage preppy style is modernized, with pieces ranging from classic staples to more sporty designs. For the color palette, camel and burgundy take center stage, nuanced with shades of grey and khaki brought to life with a range of blue, white and red tones.

The broadcloth baseball jacket plays with deconstructed patches and is matched with a pair of slim-cut jeans and oxford shoes. Sweatpants are worn with an over-sized coat in camel wool and black leather loafers. The button-up mini skirt in over-dyed cotton is worn with a slogan printed sweatshirt and wittily paired with a men’s jacket. T-shirts and shirts are slipped over lightweight dresses for a subtly casual allure. Prints and coat of arms patches in vibrant colors are proudly displayed over the garments, adding character and a sense of fun.

Playful references to American super-heroes are nuanced across the silhouettes, here and there. The wool suit radiates in a bold red with white stars motif and the emblematic New York skyline builds on the inspired Americana of the collection as it is paired over a sweater dress in reversible jacquard wool. Tops with delicate ruffles are adorned with a psychedelic comic book speech bubble motif or stripes inspired by the American flag. A navy blue beret is embroidered with tone-on-tone flashes of lightning. As for our brand’s iconic fox, he gets a make-over in the colors of the American flag as well.

Details from the classic military ensemble are subtly drawn for. An officer-inspired jumpsuit is reinterpreted in chevron-effect cotton serge with gold buttons. The Maison Kitsuné fox works its way into an edgy camouflage print. “Courage” and “Formidable” become the slogans of a collection where the games of fabrics and volumes sketch out a profound desire for comfort and protection.

This season the Maison Kitsuné woman can have fun and mix genres with confidence. She appropriates clothes for the everyday, according to whim. Thus unveils our vision of the modern woman’s wardrobe complete with cosmopolitan influences and where chic flirts with sportswear. The minimalist silhouettes with ultra-precise detailing, effortlessly blend the masculine with feminine, combining Franco-Japanese heritage and American accents; the look brims with humor, providing dynamic pieces for a wardrobe that ranges from laidback cool to au courant sophistication.
