WOOD WOOD SS17 ‘CONCRETE’
Celebrating it’s 15th anniversary, Wood Wood goes back to the roots, putting streetwear into high-end with the Spring /Summer 2017 collection. Inspired by the ‘90s skate and hip hop scene that the founders were a part of, the collection mixes raw New York attitude with a more laid back California vibe.
With the WWSS017 collection Wood Wood aims to create a hybrid look sitting between the golden days of the ’90s and today. With references to sports, workwear and vintage pieces the designers have achieved an eclectic look, and in classic Wood Wood manner the collection displays the brand’s distinct mix of streetwear with contemporary detailing and performance styling.
Both founders Karl-Oskar and Brian were teenagers in the ‘90s and were involved in the local skate and hip hop scene. Here the foundation was laid for the style and visuals of the Wood Wood brand of today, and the S/S 17 collection pays tribute to the street culture of that era. The prints have a subtle architectonic theme, with emphasis on concrete surfaces, urban settings and Brutalist references. The most significant print in the collection is the bold ‘romantic’ graphic with the anti part of the word highlighted, emphasizing the duality that Wood Wood is known for.
For men the collection includes a wide variety of prime quality jersey and fleece alongside Jacquard cotton knitwear, fine luxury merino knit and shirts in brushed oxford & soft poplin. The collection also features outerwear in crisp technical twill, classic mackintosh fabric and heavy leather.
Following the ‘90s inspiration, the women’s part of the collection features typical detailing of this era such as spaghetti straps, square necklines and wide leg cuff trousers and shorts. Satin is used for coach jackets and other iconic pieces whereas a female take on workwear is created in a delicate suiting twill. Furthermore the collection features delicate knitwear with pointelle detailing and modernized tracksuits with vintage references. Red, white, khaki and different shades of green are the most characteristic colours of the collection, and as always in W.W. collections, navy and blue plays a dominant role.
