CHEAP MONDAY “UNLIVING THE DREAM” FALL 17 MENSWEAR COLLECTION
The city of Detroit was the starting point of this Fall-Winter 2017 collection. Wanting to reflect on the climate of change within the fashion industry, the team at Cheap Monday was intrigued to see how the bankrupt city was starting to reboot. The city’s open wounds of bankruptcy-helpline billboards, burned down buildings, empty streets or abandoned train stations are slowly starting to heal through a thriving music scene, a significant influx of New York artists alongside an inspiring series of small yet successful local businesses.
While off-putting at first, Detroit quickly reveals an uplifting atmosphere of renewal, even rebirth. As always, there are two ways to look at everything, which reflects the choice between having a cynical or an optimistic outlook on life or even the gap between social media and life without a filter.
Blacks, greys, whites and khakis constitute the main palette of this Fall/Winter collection. They are powerfully completed by explosive neon green and neon pink, highlighting the feeling of renewal from the season’s theme. Ribbed knits, laser-sharp cuts, mesh/cotton combinations, quilting, bomber and “upside-down” details structure the collection. The seasonal range of prints include extra-large skull logos, graffiti-style hearts and over sized credit card features.
