RUSSELL ATHLETIC: 100 YEARS OF THE ICONIC CREWNECK SWEATSHIRT
Since 1920 the crewneck sweatshirt is just one of those rare items that will forever be a crucial piece in everyone’s wardrobe.
Reinvented countless times, the very first sweatshirt was invented by Benjamin Russell Jr., a football player for the University of Alabama. Tired of the itchy wool jersey he and his teammates would sweat through during games, Russell Jr. asked his dad to swap out the scratchy fabric for a more comfortable, and cooler cotton. Russell Sr. made his son’s design idea a reality, and simultaneously gave birth to the Russell Athletic Crew neck sweatshirt. The new versions took off both on and off the field across the globe.
100 years later and Russell Athletic are still the best, continuing to lead the way
