TIMEX x NIGEL CABOURN ‘SURVIVAL’ WATCH
Nigel Cabourn looks to the sea for inspiration and, in particular, to the survival equipment used by the British Royal Air Force during WWII for his highly anticipated third collaboration with leading global watchmaker, Timex. Paying tribute to the bravery of flight crews that crash-landed in the frigid North Atlantic, it also celebrates the role played by Ventile, one of Cabourn’s favourite British heritage fabrics.
Based in size and style on the popular “Nam” watch, Cabourn’s first collaboration with Timex, this eye-catching new version sports a bright yellow dial that pays homage to high-visibility life vests worn by RAF crew during WWII. The watch’s blue/black Ventile strap is a nod to the water-resistant Ventile immersion suits worn by those RAF crewmen. Once introduced, these suits kept them relatively warm and dry after crash-landing in the North Atlantic. The suits extended survival time for downed airmen in the frigid water from just two minutes to more than 20 minutes. Because of this effectiveness, Ventile is credited with saving countless lives since the suits were introduced.
The function-forward design is carried through to the watch hands, numbers and symbols including the “Broad Arrow” detail on the highly- legible watch face. This watch, like its predecessors, also comes with an interchangeable slip-through strap in black leather. The watch’s metal casing carries a military-style issue stamp on the case back, and the watch in total is presented in a survival-yellow branded vintage-styled cotton drill case, which includes printed text inside that details the inspiration behind this bright design.
