THE CAMBRIDGE SATCHEL COMPANY TEAMS UP WITH COMME des GARÇONS FOR NEW COLLABORATIVE SATCHEL COLLECTION
British bags and accessories brand, The Cambridge Satchel Company, partners up with Japanese fashion brand Comme des Garçons for a new women’s satchel collection.
Revisiting a collaborative relationship first explored eight years ago, the new collection focuses on the Mini, a miniature version of The Cambridge Satchel Company’s iconic classic Satchel, under the line Comme des Garçons Girl.
Available in pink, red and black, the British made leather bag features branded nickel hardware and an adjustable detachable strap which effortlessly transforms the bag from daytime cross-body carry-all to structured evening ready handbag. The Mini features a useful top handle, magnetic closures cleverly disguised as traditional buckles and metallic embossing of ‘CDG GIRL’ and ‘The Cambridge Satchel Company’ on the reverse.
“Comme des Garçons was the first brand to notice The Cambridge Satchel Company. Working with the Comme des Garçons team in the early days made us so much better – we learned a great deal. Eight years on and we are excited to be partnering again. I was proud to welcome Comme des Garçons to our workshops in Leicester, where the team met our product design and development team and were able to see what great strides we’ve made investing in British manufacturing. These bags echo our original collaboration but the body is that of our Mini, which has become such a favourite with customers. Both brands hold simplicity and style as core values. It’s a wonderful association and one that I couldn’t be happier with.” – Julie Deane, Founder and CEO of The Cambridge Satchel Company
“We are always moved by arts and crafts and hand-made objects, so Rei Kawakubo decided to work with The Cambridge Satchel Company, but mostly because it is an authentic product and not designed as such. We have always been attracted to perennial ageless design. Tradition and timelessness must be protected. The fact that it was created by women, Julie Deane and her mother, at their kitchen table was just another attraction.” – Adrian Joffe, CEO of Comme des Garçons
Priced at £230, the collaborative collection is available now in the UK at Dover Street Market, London, Matches Fashion and Farfetch. Internationally, the range can be purchased at all Comme des Garçons stores, Dover Street Market New York and Singapore, plus other retailers around the world.
